Our Sulcata Tortoises (also called African Spurred Tortoises) are the third-largest tortoise species in the world! Native to the Sahara Desert, these impressive reptiles can weigh over 100 pounds and live 70-100+ years.
Sulcatas are named for the distinctive spurs on their legs. They love basking in the sun and munching on grasses and vegetables. They're surprisingly interactive - our tortoises will approach visitors for gentle head scratches!
Watching these ancient-looking giants is a wonderfully calming experience. Their slow, methodical movements remind us to slow down and appreciate the moment. Kids especially love feeding our friendly Sulcatas!
