Spring at Majestic Meadows brought us an extra special gift this year - Luna, our newest alpaca cria who has quickly become a visitor favorite with her curious personality and adorable antics!

Luna's Arrival

Luna was born on a beautiful spring morning in late April, weighing in at a healthy 18 pounds. From the moment she stood up on those wobbly legs for the first time, we knew she was going to be something special. Her mother, Stella, is one of our most experienced and gentle alpacas, and she's been an amazing mom to little Luna.

The name "Luna" seemed perfect for her - not only because of the crescent-shaped marking on her forehead, but also because she's absolutely luminous! Her soft, creamy coat with hints of light brown is already showing incredible quality, and we expect her fleece to be exceptional when she's old enough for her first shearing.

Personality Plus

What makes Luna truly special isn't just her adorable appearance - it's her personality! While some crias are shy at first, Luna has been confident and curious from day one. She loves investigating everything in her environment, from buckets to boots to butterflies.

Visitors often find her "pronking" around the pasture - that's the adorable jumping and running that young alpacas do when they're happy and playing. It's impossible not to smile when you see Luna bouncing around, sometimes trying to get the older alpacas to play with her!

Learning and Growing

At just a few months old, Luna is learning something new every day. She's mastered the art of eating grass alongside her nursing, and she's learning proper alpaca manners from the herd. Watching her interact with the other alpacas is fascinating - they're all very gentle with her, and the aunties often help Stella keep an eye on the energetic youngster.

One of our favorite Luna moments was when she discovered the water trough for the first time. After watching the adults drink, she tentatively stepped closer, dipped her nose in, and immediately jumped back in surprise! Now she confidently drinks alongside the others, though she sometimes gets more water on her face than in her mouth.

Come Meet Luna!

Luna absolutely loves visitors! She's often one of the first alpacas to approach the fence when guests arrive, and she seems to enjoy all the attention. Our staff can point her out during your visit - look for the smallest alpaca with the cream-colored coat and the curious expression!

If you're planning to visit, mornings are usually the best time to see Luna at her most active. She's full of energy then and loves to show off her pronking skills. Later in the day, you might catch her napping in the sun next to her mom - equally adorable!

Spring Baby Season

Luna is part of our annual spring baby season, which is always one of the most exciting times at Majestic Meadows. Each spring brings new crias, and each one has their own unique personality. If you enjoyed meeting Luna, make sure to check back next spring - we'll likely have more adorable babies for you to meet!

In the meantime, follow our blog and social media for regular Luna updates. We'll be sharing photos and stories as she continues to grow and develop. Before we know it, she'll be a full-grown alpaca, but right now, we're cherishing every moment of her adorable cria stage.

Fun Alpaca Facts:

  • Cria is the Spanish word for baby alpaca (and llama!)
  • Baby alpacas can stand and walk within an hour of being born
  • Alpacas communicate through humming sounds - each has a unique "voice"
  • Crias typically nurse for about 6 months but start eating grass after a few weeks
  • The soft, bouncing run that Luna does is called "pronking" and it's a sign of happiness!

We hope you'll come visit Luna and all our other amazing animals soon. There's nothing quite like seeing these gentle creatures in person and experiencing their unique personalities firsthand!
